The EServer is connected to the Internet by an OC-12 connection.

The speed of Internet connections is defined by a few telecommunications standards. The T1 connection provides 1.5 megabits per second of connectivity. The T3 line provides 45 megabits per second. OC-3 (optical cable) provides 155 megabits per second, and OC-12 provides 622 megabits per second.

The EServer has a dedicated (switched) gigabit ethernet connection to the Iowa State University OC-12 connection to the Internet backbone.

As a result, the EServer is remarkably fast and reliable, rated by Alexa (the division of Amazon that rates websites) as very fast (91% of sites are slower), with an average page load time for readers of 0.6 seconds.
