The EServer publishes writings in the humanities (sometimes called the liberal arts).

The humanities are a group of qualitative academic subjects that study the human condition. The following disciplines are generally considered to form their core: literature and literary criticism, philosophy, history, sociology, rhetoric, cultural anthropology, cultural studies, political science, archaeology, economics, jurisprudence, art, art history, art criticism and theory, women's studies and various disciplines of ethnic studies.

The EServer, one of the earliest digital humanities projects (founded in 1990), publishes works within the broadest definition of the humanities.
